Fire in Little Africa brings together the top rappers, singers, musicians, and visual artists in Oklahoma to commemorate the centennial of the 1921 Massacre and introduce Tulsa’s hip-hop culture to a global audience. We developed their brand aesthetic, managed their social media account, and worked with Motown Records to create a launch strategy for their music videos and album Fire in Little Africa.
The idea behind the branding was to flip the way the same aesthetic was used in postcards that circulated in 1921 to celebrate the ruins that replaced the city’s black neighborhoods after the Tulsa Race Massacre. We expanded the Fire in Little Africa brand through several promotions, programming, merch pieces, and press as they ramped up toward their album launch. Upon launch in 2021, the album gained immediate press recognition with the GRAMMYs, Variety, Billboard, & more!
